About Qolware GmbH

The challenge

Chronic patients and seniors are at a high risk of suffering from sudden emergencies and progressive health decline, which are typically detected too late to trigger appropriate measures. At present, Qolware’s solution is unique in its ability to measure and predict health-related emergencies and detect more subtle changes. Its approach is reliable and scalable thanks to state-of-the-art consumer devices, yet affordable for most and discrete enough not to be experienced as stigmatizing by users.

Comparable emergency solutions on the market are mostly very limited (e.g. panic buttons that need to be in range of a fixed base station), perceived as highly stigmatizing, and usually incapable of detecting health situations automatically. Fitness tracker measurements, on the other hand, are not fine-tuned for the movements and behaviours of users with varying levels of physical impairment.

The solution

Qolware’s first product, Lola, is an emergency and health assistant application that runs on smartphones and smartwatches.

It offers a portfolio of functions designed to support users in handling their everyday health planning (a medication assistant, for example), obtaining overviews of physical progress or changes (activity level monitoring), and dealing with emergencies (automatic fall detection and localization).

Qolware’s proprietary algorithms have been developed and validated over more than seven years of research based on clinical data. Strong partnerships with clinical and health institutions (such as LMU Klinikum Munich, Malteser, and the Bavarian Red Cross) enable its team to make continuous improvements and enlarge its pool of algorithms. In addition, Qolware optimizes its implementation and data processing efforts through direct contact to the development units of the biggest hardware manufacturers (Samsung, Huawei, Apple, etc).
