The challenge

If truck driver would have information on the expected occupancy rate of truck parking facilities on their route they could plan ahead and avoid busy and overcrowded truck parking facilities. The occupancy rate of truck parking facilities is largely unknown. Out of the thousands of truck parking facilities in Europe, only a few hundred are equiped with occupancy monitoring systems. Using big data analytics and machine learning, Parckr combines GNSS and community data to produce estimates and forecasts of truck parking occupancy rates.

The solution

Truck drivers in Europe need to abide to the drive and rest time regulations of the EU. This means that in the evening truck parking facilities fill up quickly. In particular on the main transport corridors and near main logistic hubs such as sea ports and inland ports the parking capacity does not always suffice to deal with the demand, which leads to overcrowded facilities with queues extending even onto the hard shoulder of the motorway. Parckr allows truck drivers to anticipate overcrowded truck parking facilities. It forecasts the occupancy rates of all truck parking facilities along the main roads allowing truck driver to look and plan ahead when deciding where to park.
