Technology Description

Originally, the RRV-Rapid Reaction Valve was developed as a control jet for orbiting satellites. It is a highly reliable valve which delivers the smallest amounts of pressurized gas and thereby controls the satellites movements. The RRV is a ball valve with a special function. The difference between the RRV and other ball valves is that a phreatic ball moves laterally from the seat of the valve using an actuated pulse effected to the wall of the cabinet. The closing process takes place solely due to the stream of the medium. The reaction time decreases in parallel the decreasing density and the mass of the ball and the increasing velocity of the medium flow. So the advantage of the RRV is that the response times are realizable within milliseconds. The RRV is now for delivering the smallest of amounts. A position independent function may be realised by using a cage which ensures a position of the ball in a sufficient medium flow. The shown example is a valve with a ceramic cabinet special advantages concerning low density, high hardness and a high corrosion resistance of the material. It is actuated by a piezo-electrical pulse which causes the cabinet to bump the ball off its seat.

Media of high-viscosity such as glues, oils and adhesives, can be delivered by the Rapid Reaction Valve. A further feature of the RRV is that media at high pressure can be controlled with low energy consumption.
