Technology abstract

EATOPS builds control rooms for Offshore Oil & Gas installations which need to comply with the safety regulation on alarm system #ISA 18.2, #EEMUA 191 and  #TR1494. The RIVOPS console acts as a dynamic Fault Scenario recognition system that enables focussing on the root causes of a problem while maintaining integrity of the plant. Alarm scenarios are automatically recognized and compacted into a clear message broadcasted in the control room.

Technology Description

EATOPS commercializes its dynamic alarm recognition module. The technology was developed in 2007 and now complies with international regulations published in 2014 on Alarm Systems (ISA 18.2).
RIVOPS was adapted from an ESA technology. It was turned into a distributable plug-in for control systems and is now used in the oil & gas industry. It is compatible with most control systems vendors Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, Allen Bradley, & Yokogawa.
The core of the technology is a smart combination of software & hardware components especially designed to reduce the number of separate, related alarms inside the control room and allow the operator to rapidly focus on the root cause of the problem. RIVOPS consoles significantly enhance the awareness of the operator using a set of intuitive displays.
During an emergency scenario, the control room will be flooded by an excessive amount of data. Alarms will be triggered one after another requiring immediate attention from the operator. At this crucial stage, any possible help is required to support the operator and help him/her to get back to a nominal situation. RIVOPS consoles are designed to actively counter-balance this increasing alarm rate using the aggregation of historical data. The alarm presentation technology is compatible with the principle of online alarm shelving and is compatible with alarm grouping algorithms available on the market.
An intelligent console is able to learn from its alarm history and use the response guidelines stored inside the fault scenario database. This allows the operator to recover much faster from a known upset scenario.
